Socio-economic factors in soil erosion and conservation

چکیده
Farmer decisions with regard to production and land use are strongly influenced by socio-economic factors. In the developed world, the role of agricultural subsidies, quotas and guaranteed prices is especially important. In the past there have been many examples of economic signals which led to unfortunate and unforeseen environmental consequences (‘perverse subsidies’), including soil erosion. The problems were neglected because of an emphasis on increases in productivity and the fact that many of the costs were hidden or were external to the farm and were borne by society. In recent years ‘agri-environmental measures’ have begun to reverse the trend towards environmental degradation. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Factors Affecting the Adoption of Conservation Measures in Soil Erosion Control: A Case of Orchard Lands of Chehel-Chay Watershed
1- INTRODUCTION Soil as one of the most important inputs in agricultural production process plays an important role in the quality of production operation, food security and sustainable development. On the other hand, soil erosion as one of the environmental agriculture issues has been intensified with increasing population and transforming to intensive forms of agriculture in recent years. Mi...

Soil erosion is one of the most important forms of land degradation that threatens continued and sustained agricultural production in Ghana. The most severely affected areas are the three northern regions especially Upper East Region, where large tracts of land have been destroyed by water erosion leading to soil depth reduction and decline in soil fertility. This study was carried out in Talen...
متن کاملSustainable practices to limit soil erosion: a review and discussion
How the review was carried out is briefly described. The review looks mainly at the literature published since year 2000, but does not exclude earlier publications. The sustainability of practices to limit erosion must be assessed not only in terms of the soil resource and the wider environment but must also take into account economical and socio-political factors. Soil degradation may be due t...

One of non-forage functions of rangelands vegetation is soil conservation and prevents it from erosion. Water soil erosion has economic, social and environmental implication due to both on-site and off-site effects. So, the objective of this study was to assess the on-site effect of water erosion on conservation function of summer rangelands vegetation, using a combination between economic valu...

Reducing the amount and intensity of surface runoff, thus reducing erosion is one of the important aspects of natural resource management, watershed management and soil conservation. Land surface conditions and particularly vegetation is Mitigating or aggravating factor in erosion. Studies on the effect of ground cover to reduce erosion rates indicate that is not necessary to ground cover to re...
